Jr. Training
Saturday July 8,
2007 in house training was held for the Jr. members and
possible new Jr. member candidates in the engine bay at
Bridgeville VFC. Jr. members John Tomeski Jr., Katie Tomeski,
Nikki, and Paulie all dawned on gear and were instructed
on search and rescue. John Tomeski Sr., Bill Poole, and Chris
Millman instructed the Jr. members as they practice
their skills. The Jr. members dragged uncharged
hose line along with axes and halogen bars during each
revolution. Each revolution was little different each
time. Once without packs, next with packs, and then finally
packs and mask with blinders. And also a change of the
search area once they were blinded. Two of the students in
attendance were not students but rather candidates wanting a
"taste" of what it is like to go through the training and what
it is like to be a fire fighter. After the training both
candidates were still enthusiastic about joining the fire
company within the next few months.

Fatal MVC in
Bridgeville
On Saturday June
16, 2007 Bridgeville Vol. Fire Co. was dispatched to a MVC
with entrapment. Ambulance A-72 was the first arriving unit
and found 3 vehicles involved, 2 patients, one patient was
heavily trapped. It was understood that the driver of an older
model Chevy Blazer was traveling South-bound on US 13 and fell
asleep at the wheel. The driver struck a Chevy pick-up
waiting to cross the highway in the median. He then crossed
over the median and careened into a Ford Ranger pick-up in the
North-bound lane, striking it on the driver's door. The Blazer
finally came to rest when it struck a concrete/brick pillar in
front of Scott's Furniture store. The patient in the Ford
Ranger was deemed a priority one. A roof and door
removal was performed to extricate him. EMS on scene was
initially going to transport him via Delaware Trooper II, but
due to a sudden decline in his status the decision was made to
go by ground. Despite the best efforts of EMS the patient
would succumb to his injuries. The scene was called under
control at 0825 hours, but units did not clear until 1035
hours due to the investigation by DSP.
